History
Bred in the Chinese imperial court as companion dogs for centuries. DNA analysis confirms the Shih Tzu is one of the most ancient dog breeds, closely related to wolves despite their appearance.
Temperament
Shih Tzus are outgoing, trusting, and affectionate. They love everyone and are rarely aggressive. They're excellent apartment dogs — content with moderate activity and lots of attention.
They can be stubborn about training but respond well to positive reinforcement and patience.
Exercise Needs
20-30 minutes daily. Short walks and indoor play suit them well. They're brachycephalic (flat-faced), so avoid exercise in heat.
Health
