How This Calculator Works
Resting Energy Requirement
We start with the Resting Energy Requirement (RER) formula: 70 x (body weight in kg)^0.75 — a common way to estimate base energy needs.
Activity Multiplier
Your pet's daily activity and life stage determine a multiplier (1.0-2.5x) applied to the RER to get total daily calories needed.
Portion Conversion
Calories are converted to grams based on food type density. Dry kibble averages ~350 kcal/100g, wet food ~85 kcal/100g.
