About Body Condition Score

BCS 1-3: Lean

Ribs, spine, and hip bones clearly visible, with little fat cover and an obvious waist. If this describes your pet, your vet is the best person to talk to.

BCS 4-5: Mid-range

Ribs easily felt but not prominently visible. Noticeable waist when viewed from above, with a slight abdominal tuck.

BCS 6-7: Rounded

Ribs hard to feel under a fat layer, with the waist barely visible and a rounded abdomen. Your vet can advise on what this means for your pet.
